Luke Ruberto

Luke Ruberto, H.B.A, LL.B. 

Luke Ruberto, one of the two founding partners at Ruberto Sheikh LLP, graduated in 2013 with a law degree from Cardiff University of Wales and was subsequently called to the bar in Ontario in 2015.

Prior to attending law school, Luke obtained an HBA from Lakehead University in Political Science and Philosophy.

Luke’s practice focuses on Civil Litigation, Corporate and Commercial Law, Real Estate, Employment Law, Family Law and Child Protection. He regularly appears before the Ontario Court of Justice and Superior Court of Justice and has also appeared before the Ontario Court of Appeal, Small Claims Court, Ontario Municipal Board, and the Landlord Tenant Board.

Although based in Thunder Bay, Luke has, and continues to represent individuals, corporations, and First Nation communities across Northwestern Ontario.

Luke is the Vice-President of the Thunder Bay Law Association (TBLA) and has served as a Director of the TBLA since 2016. Luke coached the Family Law Negotiation moot team at the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law from 2021-2023 and in his spare time, Luke can be found climbing mountains or skipping rocks on Lake Superior.

Luke is as passionate about getting the best results for his clients as he is about his hometown of Thunder Bay.

Nadir Sheikh

Nadir Sheikh, H.B.Sc., J.D.

Nadir has over a decade of combined experience in Family Law, Real Estate Law and Child Protection matters.

Kady Stachiw

Kady Stachiw

Kady graduated cum laude from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law in 2015 and was called to the bar in Ontario in 2016. She summered and articled with Rene Larson Law Office (as it was then) and has been with Larson Lawyers Professional Corporation since her call to the bar. Originally from Thunder Bay, Kady enjoyed living in Ottawa for her law school years but enthusiastically moved home to start practicing after graduation.

Kady’s practice focuses on real estate and wills and estates. She has been a Director of the Thunder Bay Law Association (TBLA) since 2016 and was recently appointed as the Secretary to the TBLA. She is a former lecturer at the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law, teaching the Wills and Estates course from 2017 – 2020. She is the former Thunder Bay Youth Curling Director and past Vice-President of the Port Arthur Curling Club. She is a provincial mixed curling champion, having won the 2013 Northern Ontario Mixed Curling Provincial Championship. In her spare time, she can be found throwing rocks at the curling club, back country camping in the Northwestern Ontario wilderness or running agility trials with her Sheepadoodle, Gus.

Matthew Huston

Matthew Huston

Matt is an associate lawyer at Ruberto Sheikh LLP. He focuses his practice primarily on family and child protection law.

From contested adoptions to separation agreements, Matt assists clients in a wide variety of matters. He maintains a realistic and reasoned approach to all files, aiming to obtain practical and lasting outcomes for his clients as efficiently as possible.

Matt completed his undergraduate studies in pre-law political science at Lakehead University. He obtained his law degree from the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law, graduating on the Dean’s List in May 2020. During law school, he worked at a few local firms and completed his practice placement at a small firm focused on family, estates, and real estate law. He was called to the bar in Ontario in October 2020.

Before law school, Matt worked in the trades as an automotive service technician for nearly a decade. His unique path to becoming a lawyer provides him with valuable experience and the ability to relate to people from all walks of life. He is highly motivated and has strong problem-solving skills that assist him in his practice.

Matt accepts a combination of files, including some Legal Aid clients, depending on his caseload. He is also pleased to offer unbundled legal services and limited-scope retainers to assist with document preparation or Court appearances at a reduced rate. He is based in Thunder Bay but has represented clients across the Northwest, including from northern First Nation communities, from Kenora to Marathon, and many centres in between.

Matt was born and raised in Thunder Bay and volunteers within the community. He is currently an executive board member of the Thunder Bay Lacrosse League and a member of the Thunder Bay Law Association.

In his time away from the office, Matt enjoys spending time with his young family, completing auto repairs, home renovation projects, and barbecuing.

Carter Fontaine

Carter Fontaine

Carter is an associate lawyer at Ruberto Sheikh LLP, focusing on family law.

Carter completed his undergraduate education at Lakehead University earning an Honours Bachelor of Education. Carter worked as a tutor in local schools throughout university. His time working with kids and parents taught him valuable interpersonal skills which allows him to better relate to clients and assist them in a meaningful way.

Carter completed law school at the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law where he graduated in 2023 and was called to the Ontario bar in the same year. During law school, Carter completed his practice placement with Ruberto Sheikh LLP where he learned invaluable legal skills and is excited to begin his legal career with the firm.

In his free time, Carter enjoys working on his subpar golf game and cheering on his Toronto Maple Leafs. Carter is also an active member of the local music community and enjoys playing with a number of local bands in venues throughout Thunder Bay.

Christine Baillie

Christine is a highly qualified law clerk with eight years of experience in family law and child protection matters. She has assisted numerous lawyers in civil litigation procedures, as well as in the preparation of wills and estate planning documentation for clients. Her attention to detail and comprehensive understanding of legal procedures have enabled her to establish herself as a trusted advisor and dependable resource for her clients.

Christine’s professionalism and dedication to her work are reflected in every task she takes on, and her ability to provide empathetic support to her clients is one of her greatest strengths. She approaches each client with sensitivity and care, adapting to the unique needs and concerns of each individual. Coming from a background in healthcare, as a legal assistant her role is to make clients feel welcome, gather information as well as implement an empathetic and understanding ear for those going through difficult situations. She is able to support our clients and ensure their needs are being met with the highest level of care

Alex takes great pride in keeping the office organized and running smoothly. Whether it’s managing appointments, taking phone calls, or greeting visitors, she is efficient and attentive to everyone’s needs. Above all else, Alex strives to bring a cheerful and positive attitude to work each day.

Ali Mapledoram

Ali Mapledoram

Ali previously worked at another local law firm for many years before bringing her experience to RUSH LLP. She works mainly in the area of real estate where her organizational and multi-tasking skills serve her clients extremely well whether it is regarding residential purchases, sales and refinances or more complex commercial transactions.

Ali has received her certificate in Real Estate, Wills and Estates and Corporate Law from the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario (ILCO) and she is always looking for ways to expand her knowledge and understanding to better serve her clients.

In her spare time Ali enjoys puzzles, plants and being a dog mom to her fur babies Hal and Finn.

In her role, she assists with managing client communications, scheduling appointments, and providing support to the legal team. As she continues to develop her skills in the law field, she is dedicated to building meaningful connections within the community and contributing to the firm’s supportive team atmosphere.
