Matthew Huston
Matt is an associate lawyer at Ruberto Sheikh LLP. He focuses his practice primarily on family and child protection law.
From contested adoptions to separation agreements, Matt assists clients in a wide variety of matters. He maintains a realistic and reasoned approach to all files, aiming to obtain practical and lasting outcomes for his clients as efficiently as possible.
Matt completed his undergraduate studies in pre-law political science at Lakehead University. He obtained his law degree from the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law, graduating on the Dean’s List in May 2020. During law school, he worked at a few local firms and completed his practice placement at a small firm focused on family, estates, and real estate law. He was called to the bar in Ontario in October 2020.
Before law school, Matt worked in the trades as an automotive service technician for nearly a decade. His unique path to becoming a lawyer provides him with valuable experience and the ability to relate to people from all walks of life. He is highly motivated and has strong problem-solving skills that assist him in his practice.
Matt accepts a combination of files, including some Legal Aid clients, depending on his caseload. He is also pleased to offer unbundled legal services and limited-scope retainers to assist with document preparation or Court appearances at a reduced rate. He is based in Thunder Bay but has represented clients across the Northwest, including from northern First Nation communities, from Kenora to Marathon, and many centres in between.
Matt was born and raised in Thunder Bay and volunteers within the community. He is currently an executive board member of the Thunder Bay Lacrosse League and a member of the Thunder Bay Law Association.
In his time away from the office, Matt enjoys spending time with his young family, completing auto repairs, home renovation projects, and barbecuing.
